这两个礼拜，佳士得在纽约势如破竹，洛克菲勒「世纪拍卖」与「现代艺术」晚拍都交出亮丽成绩单。来到压轴的「当代艺术」晚拍，由US$4,980万成交的培根（Francis Bacon）「镇魂曲」领衔，挥出价值US$4亿的最后一击，再次宣示拍卖界的霸主地位。
《Study for Portrait》，英国巨匠培根绘于1977年的大作，画中人是他的情郎兼灵感泉源 - 戴尔（George Dyer），估价US$3,000万。

1963年秋季，两人在一晚酩酊大醉中相识。一个是当时得令的画家，年逾半百；一个是来自东伦敦的窃贼，才刚踏入30岁。惟身份、地位、年龄都阻不了这段如暴风雨般袭来的恋情。

可惜这段惊天动地的爱情未能修成正果，戴尔于1971年自杀身亡。培根大受打击的同时，开始为这位已逝的恋人绘下一系列大作。今次上拍的这一幅，可说是培根为戴尔演奏的「镇魂曲」。
画作US$2,700万起拍，主要竞投者有两位，俱透过电话出价。经过近25口叫价的拉锯战后，拍卖官以US$4,400万落槌。买家为「战后及当代艺术部」专家Renato Pennisi的客户，连佣US$4,980万（RMB 3.1亿）成交。
第二位是安迪华荷（Andy Warhol）的《Double Elvis》，主角是牛仔造型的「猫王」皮礼士利（Elvis Presley），估价US$3,300万。
此作US$3,050万起拍，US$3,350万落槌。买家是在现场出价的Bret Gorvy - 亦即是著名画廊Lévy Gorvy的创办人，连佣成交价为US$3,700万（RMB 2.3亿）。
2012年，史提夫永利（Steve Wynn）在纽约苏富比投得此画时，同样支付了US$3,700万。是故，这位永利渡假村创办人今次放售画作，可说是「损手离场」。
第三位是《No. 7》，出自罗斯科（Mark Rothko）之手，是这位美籍俄裔抽象表现画家绘于1954年之作，估价US$3,000万。
拍卖官彭肯南（Jussi Pylkkanen）以US$2,300万起拍，US$2,700万落槌，连佣近US$3,070万（RMB 1.9亿）成交，买家经电话委托战后及当代艺术部美洲区联合主席Alex Rotter （上图，右）出价。
本场共65拍品，撤拍或流拍的有7件，成交率为89%，总成交额为US$3.98亿，逾US$1,500万成交的拍品有7件。
